Apply – Alpha, the Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Workshop for Young Writers

Applications are open through March 10 for the Alpha SF/F/H/Workshop for Young Writers.

I attended Alpha at 17, and I can say with confidence I wouldn’t be here on this website with my novel cover on the header if I hadn’t spent that week and a half immersed in the craft of fiction, meeting people just like me, learning from amazing guest authors and editors like Charles Coleman Finlay, Tobias Buckell, and Tamora Pierce (my teenage HERO).

This years’ guest authors include Mark Oshiro ( @markdoesstuff ), and Tamora Pierce (she comes back every year! Can you believe it?). Two more guests are still TBA, but I know they’re going to be great.

That’s not even taking the staff into account. I’ll be there, as will Seth Dickinson, author of The Traitor Baru Cormorant and The Monster Baru Cormorant, as well as a TON of short fiction. Catherine Krahe, editor of Strange Horizons, will be on staff too. Along with some truly incredible scientists, academics, fandom folks, and gamers.

If you’re going to be between the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive!) during the dates of this year’s workshop, or you know someone who will be: it’s a life-changing experience, and I hope to see you (or your teenage acquaintance) there!
